The IT professional is responsible for the day to day operations of the shipboard computer systems, providing IT systems support, maintenance and monitoring to maintain an excellent IT performance in accordance with company policies, while working alongside the shore side IT department on technology advancements and projects with proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.

 

Even being one of the most critical departments on board, the Information Technology team is usually consisted of a single professional or a small team of up to three persons that must coordinate with ability to apply the principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

 

Due to the technicality of this position, it has so many basic requirements that many professionals have to re-learn and invest time and money into different aspects and subjects in order to acquire the so much needed experience.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum five years of experience with large data centers or demanding networks like a hotel, casino or resort is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude and communication skills, with perfect command of the English language, while knowledge of additional languages is a plus.

RECOMMENDED CERTIFICATIONS

Besides experience with all listed software and equipment on the job basic requirements, having a GMDSS operator certificate and the Cisco CCNA certification are mandatory for all major cruise lines. Any other certificate or graduation on any technological field related to IT and Networks is also recommended.
