Princess Cruises
Princess Cruise Line began in 1965, when it started to charter ships from other companies to provide short cruises to Alaska and Mexican Riviera. In 1974, P&O bought Princess Cruise Line and started to market more private destinations along the Caribbean with exclusive ships and service on board, different from other cruise lines that only provided basic service at the time. With a large investment, Princess started building their own private island and named it Princess Cays (although being marketed as an island, the spot is a beach along the south coast of the island Eleuthera in the Bahamas, where other cruise lines also have private destinations).
In 2000, P&O officiated the name P&O Princess Cruises, which consisted of P&O Cruises, P&O Australia, AIDA and Princess Cruise Line. The corporation name lasted until 2003, when Carnival Corporation made a multi-billion dollar agreement to purchase all the companies and then de-merged all cruise lines, thus creating the name as we know today as Princess Cruises.
The company was made famous by the American television series The Love Boat, in which its ship Pacific Princess was featured.
