Vacunas

As part of the selection process, you will require to take some Vaccines. You can start taking them right away as some of them need to be taken with some months apart from each other. If you took them as a baby, as long as you still have the vaccination card intact you should be fine. Otherwise, you will have to take them all again, and for some you will be charged for. This is a non-refundable cost.

Optionally you can also take vaccines for the Flu and HPV. They’re not required by any company, but we recommend them to keep your body protected. During Flu season or outbreaks you might be asked to take the vaccine on board.

If you handle food on board (Galley, Chefs, Waiters, BarWaiters) you will be required to take the Hepatitis B vaccine. For all other positions it is totally optional (but we recommend you take it anyway).

MMR

The MMR vaccine is a vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles). For the majority of cruise lines, you will require to be taken two doses.

DTaP

DTaP is a vaccine that helps develop immunity to three deadly diseases caused by bacteria: diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough (pertussis).

Varicella

Also known as chickenpox vaccine, is a vaccine that protects against chickenpox. One dose of vaccine prevents 95% of moderate disease and 100% of severe disease. Two doses of vaccine are ONLY REQUIRED for some cruise lines, like Disney, Carnival and Pullmantur.

NOTE: If you already had this disease before (common at childhood) you don’t need to take the vaccines, as it can be confirmed during your blood test.

Yellow Fever

Yellow fever is a viral infection that occurs in Africa and South America. Most people begin to develop immunity within ten days and 99% are protected within one month of vaccination.

NOTE: You need the International Yellow Fever Certificate in order to join a vessel. In order to acquire it, get informed on your local health center. In order to receive the certificate, you also need to take the full dose of the vaccine, which can be hard to find in some countries like Peru, Argentina and Brazil.
