Job Description:
An Expedition Guide on an expedition vessel plays a vital role in creating an enriching and memorable experience for guests. This role involves guiding and interpreting the environment and culture of the destinations, leading excursions, and providing informative presentations and narration to guests. The goal is to help guests understand and appreciate the natural and cultural aspects of the locations they visit during their cruise.
Required skills:
Previous experience in a similar role within the expedition cruise industry, or relevant experience in lecturing and guiding with a Bachelor of Science in natural and/or cultural history or other relevant fields of study, or equivalent experience, with strong written and verbal communication skills for creating interpretive materials and presentations, exceptional ability to provide excellent customer service and solve problems efficiently, strong administration and organizational skills to manage various tasks effectively.
Ability to anticipate and address potential issues or challenges proactively, preference for working in a team setting with strong communication and collaboration skills while efficiently managing time to handle tasks, excursions, and presentations with commitment to upholding the standards of the cruise line.
Mandatory Licenses:
Marine Radio Operator’s License or an equivalent certification, to ensure safety during excursions.
Small Boat License such as RYA Powerboat level 2 or equivalent, is an advantage for leading boating excursions.
First Aid/CPR and Wilderness First Responder Certification, ensures the guide can handle medical emergencies and provide assistance in wilderness settings.
Recommended skills:
If the vessels goes to the artics, a valid Polar Guide certification (PTGA) and have passed the appropriate and most recent field staff online assessment of IAATO.
Fluency in any of the following languages is considered a valuable asset for an Expedition Guide on an expedition cruise vessel: German, Chinese, Japanese or French.
The role requires a guide who is well-organized, efficient, positive, and reliable, with a strong understanding of guest needs and expectations. By possessing these skills and qualifications, the Expedition Guide can provide guests with an exceptional and memorable experience during their cruise.
