Job Description:
The Audio Technician is tasked with safely and effectively operating all audio systems in the main theater for a wide range of shows and activities, including full-cast production shows, magic shows, variety shows, game shows, lounge talks, presentations, and more. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining and ensuring the proper functioning of all audio systems in various venues across the ship, along with performing cleaning and maintenance duties as needed.
Required skills:
The Audio Technician should possess a solid understanding and proficiency in operating and maintaining professional audio equipment, including digital and analog consoles. They should also be familiar with show control and time code distribution, digital audio recording systems, and have a grasp of electrical theory to interpret drawings and diagrams. Basic knowledge in PC hardware and software maintenance is required, along with troubleshooting skills for basic repairs. A background in theater and experience with industry standards and practices is essential, as is the ability to work under pressure and multitask effectively. Comfort with working at heights and in a dynamic theater environment is necessary, along with excellent English verbal skills for communication in show-running situations. Additionally, they should have good overall health and physical condition and be capable of lifting and moving up to 22 kilograms (50 pounds).
The Audio Technician is responsible for operating the main theater audio equipment during all shows and activities, including FOH mixing for singers, musicians, and playback accompaniment, as well as monitor mixing for performers and technicians. They ensure proper signal flow and sound levels, perform show load-ins and load-outs, and address any audio system issues promptly. Additionally, they maintain and troubleshoot audio systems throughout the ship, manage microphone inventory, and assist with rehearsals and tech runs. They also support organized groups and charters, operate audio equipment in the aft lounge, and have a basic understanding of video and lighting equipment setup and operation.
Recommended skills:
Preferably, candidates should hold a degree in Electrics, Electronics, Audio Engineering, or other related technical fields. Highly recommended certifications aligned with career goals: Harman Core, Q-SYS Audio Certifications, Dante 1, 2 and 3, Associate Audio Programming, AVIXA Networking Technology Online certifications.
Although not required, having these certifications greatly improves a candidate’s likelihood of landing a job in any company or even getting promoted on board.
