Job Description:
The Entertainment Technical Manager (ETM) or sometimes just known as Technical Manager, bears daily responsibility for the entirety of the entertainment technical operation aboard their vessels, playing a vital role in its overall success. They provide leadership and guidance to the onboard Entertainment Technical team. The ETM is expected to maintain professionalism and adhere to all shipboard and shoreside rules and regulations, including safety protocols, appearance, uniform and dress code standards, alcohol policies, and hygiene standards.
Required skills:
General knowledge of professional theatrical and broadcast equipment operation and maintenance procedures, including FOH audio, lighting, show control, stage management, automation, mechanical TV antennas, IATV, live CCTV broadcast, and digital signage. Experience in broadcast and A/V technology operation is required, along with strong management, leadership, communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, and team-building skills. Candidates should have knowledge of electrical theory and be able to read and follow electrical and system drawings and diagrams. Proficiency in PC hardware and software maintenance and repair is necessary. Candidates must be able to safely climb an A-frame ladder and operate an Aerial Work Platform. A friendly, professional, and self-motivated demeanor with a willingness to go above and beyond is essential. Excellent English verbal and written skills are required, along with knowledge of English language structure and grammar. Candidates should be in good overall health and physical condition, capable of lifting and moving up to 22 kilograms (50 pounds).
The Entertainment Technical Manager’s responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the onboard entertainment technical operation, including Entertainment Technicians, theatrical operation, A/V and broadcast operation, digital signage operation and maintenance. They manage the selection and maintenance workflow of all Entertainment Technical equipment and oversee the technical standards of production to ensure the highest production values. Additionally, they create and oversee the weekly technical team schedule, coordinate with onboard marine engineering teams on special projects, and work closely with various onboard departments on entertainment technical operational needs. They ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all Entertainment Technical working and storage areas and ensure adherence to occupational safety health policies and procedures. The Entertainment Technical Manager also coordinates with contractors, vendors, and Entertainment Technical Supervisors/Fleet Manager, oversees support for local/secondary entertainment venues across the hotel, and completes mid and end of contract evaluations for technicians assigned to their vessel.
Recommended skills:
Preferably, candidates should have at least five years of previous experience in another technical position within the same cruise line or management experience. Human resources skills like conflict resolution and public speaking are highly valuable and although not required, having these certifications greatly improves a candidate’s likelihood of landing a job in any company.
