Job Description:

The Video Technician operates and maintains robotic and handheld cameras as well as control room equipment to produce live video content for display throughout the venue, participating in both fast-paced production shows and slower-paced activities. They are assigned to the production technical team and may undertake technical duties outside the A/V control room based on their assigned track. Previous experience as a Control Room operator is highly recommended, along with proficiency in basic camera techniques and the ability to fill other control room positions on rotation, such as video switcher.

If necessary, the Video Technician must also be capable of performing the duties of an Audio/LES Technician during production shows, live comedies, live bands, weddings, receptions, and other special events.

The position of “Video Technician” should not be confused with that of a “Broadcast Technician“, as their roles differ significantly. Video Technicians primarily handle recordings and operate cameras, with minimal to no maintenance responsibilities. It’s worth noting that some companies may hire both Broadcast and Video Technicians for distinct purposes.

Required skills:

The ideal candidate possesses attention to detail, consistently delivers high-quality work, maintains a professional demeanor, communicates effectively with teammates, and demonstrates a willingness to assist in various aspects of control room and theatrical technical production.

1-3 years of experience working in a live production environment as a camera operator, with proficiency in shooting live with PTZ cameras and handheld cameras, along with 1-3 years of experience as a Vision Mixer Operator/Technical Director.

Knowledge of general industry-standard software/hardware, proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite, and experience with non-linear editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite, FinalCut Pro, DaVinchi Resolve, AVID, etc.

Demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision in a dynamic environment, strong communication skills in English, proficiency in start-to-finish video production and videography, video editing using mentioned software, understanding of video resolutions, codecs, and compression, and the ability to read signal flow drawings.

Recommended skills:

Preferably, candidates should hold a degree in Electrics, Electronics, Video Production, A/V Technology, or other technical fields. Highly recommended certifications aligned with career goals: Harman Core, AV Technology Installation, AVIXA Networking. Additionally, having experience with TRICASTER, Blackmagic ATEM, or other similar mixers is advantageous.

Although not required, having these certifications greatly improves a candidate’s likelihood of landing a job in any company or even getting promoted on board.
