Job Description:
The Aquatic Attendant (Lifeguard) helps ensure the safety of guests and crew members using the swimming pools, water slides, and surfing simulators onboard. He/she participates in the lifeguard program and assists the Supervisors with daily pool operations and inspections of all recreational water facilities. While assigned to open deck areas, you must remain alert and vigilant to ensure the safe use of the facilities. You must be attentive to controlling crowd behavior and ensuring the safe and orderly use of the facilities. When assigned to waterpark/slide duties or pools, you are responsible for the safety and orderly conduct of guests, ensuring the safe entry and exit of riders from the slides, managing general crowd control, and enforcing related procedures. You are responsible for correcting and reporting any horseplay or inappropriate behavior to supervisors as necessary. You must also report any safety issues or repairs/maintenance needed in your assigned areas.
You are expected to maintain constant surveillance of guests in and around the pool, acting immediately and appropriately to ensure their safety in the event of an emergency. You must provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services, as trained by the company or a designated individual. Ensuring the correct usage, storage, and labeling of all chemicals and applicable equipment is essential. You will also operate cleaning machines and equipment under the guidance of management to maintain the waterpark, waterslides, whirlpools, and swimming pools according to company standards. When recreational water facilities (RWF) are closed, you will perform cleaning tasks as directed by the Pool and Deck Supervisor or Housekeeping management, such as cleaning the RWF, handling fecal accident cleanups, scrubbing sun loungers, cleaning around the pool areas, assisting with plate and cup collection, and packing up sun loungers.
You are required to adhere to the company’s standards regarding dress and appearance at all times. It is important to ensure that chlorine, bromide, and pH levels in the pools and whirlpools are maintained according to USPH requirements, and you must maintain accurate pool logs. Hospitality standards must be applied at all times in both guest and crew areas. Any guest issues should be reported immediately to Housekeeping management.
Required skills:
Candidates are expected to have 1-2 years of hands-on experience in a comparable position, showcasing familiarity with job-specific tasks and responsibilities. This demonstrates your ability to adapt quickly to the role’s requirements and an understanding of the working environment, whether it be in customer service, hospitality, or any similar field.
Fluency in spoken English ensures that you can handle inquiries, resolve concerns, and interact professionally with guests from diverse backgrounds.
You must pass a Seafarers Medical Fitness Examination, ensuring that you are physically fit for the role. Being able to lift up to 23kgs (50 lbs) unassisted is necessary, showcasing physical strength and the ability to handle the demands of the job, such as assisting guests or moving equipment as needed.
Recommended skills:
A lifeguard certification, swim instructor training, or water safety outreach courses, along with related skills, would drastically enhance someone’s resume. Although not required, having these certifications greatly improves a candidate’s likelihood of landing a job in any company or even getting promoted on board.
