Job Description:

Assistant Cooks learn the ropes of the vast culinary operation on board. They support various functions aboard, and starting as an Assistant Cook can lead to career opportunities in all specialties in the galley department. Their responsibilities include following recipes and supporting culinary leadership and ensuring specifications are followed to ensure quality and consistency.

Required skills:

Applicants must have a minimum of one year’s experience in a high-volume professional culinary environment such as a restaurant, hotel, or cruise ship, strong comprehension of the English language, physical strength to lift a minimum of 27kg (60lbs) for physically challenging work, and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

Recommended skills:

Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of all basic cooking techniques and skills, including knife skills, basic cuts, and all cooking methods, familiarity with basic equipment such as steamer, fryer, kettles, and robocoup, as well as a basic understanding of herbs, spices, and various flavoring ingredients.
